metaplanet acquires more bitcoin

Metaplanet just made headlines by snagging a whopping 797 BTC in July 2025. That’s right, they’re now sitting on an impressive total of 16,352 Bitcoin, which makes them the fifth-largest holder among public companies globally.

And let’s not forget, they’ve jumped ahead of some heavyweights like Tesla and Galaxy Digital. Not too shabby for a corporate player in the crypto game.

This recent acquisition cost Metaplanet around ¥13.798 billion, or $93.6 million, with an average price per Bitcoin hitting about ¥17.31 million. Talk about a serious investment! The value of Bitcoin has shown market volatility over the years, making these strategic purchases all the more significant.

But here’s the kicker: they’re not just hoarding these coins for fun. Metaplanet is on a mission—dubbed the “555 Million Plan”—to accumulate a staggering 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027. That’s roughly 1% of all Bitcoin in existence. Who wouldn’t want a piece of that pie?

Their aggressive buying strategy reflects a belief that Bitcoin is more than just a digital treasure chest; it’s a hedge against inflation and a safeguard against fiat currency’s inevitable devaluation. Additionally, this plan replaces their previous “21 Million Plan” aimed for 21,000 BTC by 2026. In fact, Metaplanet has also committed to accumulating 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025, which they achieved earlier this year.

With a reported BTC yield of 19.4% in early July 2025, Metaplanet is clearly not just hoping for the best—they’re banking on it.

And let’s talk about how they’re financing this endeavor. They issued $208 million in 0% interest ordinary bonds. Smart move? You bet.

Their total Bitcoin investment is now around ¥239.616 billion, or $1.6 billion. This is serious capital at work.

The market is responding too. After Metaplanet’s bulk purchases, their stock surged 10%. Coincidence? Probably not.

They’re also the title sponsor of the Bitcoin Asia 2025 conference, showing they mean business. Metaplanet is no longer an emerging player; they’re a heavyweight contender in the crypto boxing ring.
